Google has broken ground on a large-scale artificial intelligence and data center hub in Visakhapatnam, India, officially launching a $15 billion investment plan

that could reshape India’s digital infrastructure landscape over the next five years.

This project, a collaboration between Google, AdaniConneX, and Airtel's Nxtra, will create what Google calls India's first gigawatt (GW) AI ecosystem cluster.

The overall plan includes three hyperscale data center campuses, fiber optic network expansion, submarine cable infrastructure, and long-term renewable energy access.

Google first announced the investment in October 2025 as part of its overall strategy to strengthen its AI-ready infrastructure in India.

The company plans to invest $15 billion between 2026 and 2030 in business service expansion, cloud business expansion, and digital connectivity infrastructure construction.

Google stated that the campus will adopt a long-term clean energy strategy, aligning with India's national goal of achieving 500 gigawatts of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.

In addition to infrastructure construction, Google is also launching several talent development and community empowerment programs.

The company will collaborate with institutions such as the Indian ICT Academy to provide local staff with skills training in engineering construction, campus operations and maintenance, cloud computing, and generative AI.
